AIDA Mentoring Program
AIDA provides mentoring as a benefit for our members; it is a way for our members to support and guide each other through their medical studies and then careers as Indigenous medical practitioners.
Our mentoring program is called Nintintjaku malpa wiru which is a Pitjantjatjara phrase that means “learning from a good friend”, which is the goal of the program. To help our participants get the most out of the program, we have retained the services of Ms Vanessa Fudge, who is an expert in mentoring and coaching. Vanessa has provided a mentoring guidebook that is available to participants and provides an excellent roadmap to getting the most out of mentoring. Vanessa will also run workshops throughout the program to provide more in depth support to participants.
The AIDA Mentoring Program is a nine-month program with a formal intake of participants in March each year.
The mentoring program is open to all AIDA members. At this time, participation as a mentee is limited to Indigenous medical student and Indigenous medical doctor members of AIDA.
To join the program as a mentee or mentor (or both!), click here
You will then be taken to a registration form where you will be asked to provide some details about yourself, whether you want to be a mentor or a mentee (or both) and what you would like to get out of the AIDA mentoring program. Your registration form will then be reviewed by the program coordinator who will invite you onto the program and you will receive an email providing access to our mentoring platform, Mentorloop.
AIDA is currently using the Mentorloop app to support our program. Mentorloop helps us to match mentees with mentors (creating a “loop”); participants can also match themselves using the “My Match” feature to select from our panel of participants. Mentorloop also allows mentees and mentors to communicate with each other through the app, but if having a chat over the phone or meeting up over coffee is your thing, then that’s OK too. Messages sent via the app will forward directly to your email, so you won’t miss anything if you don’t log in to the app for a while. You can also explore the resources hub through the app and there are lots of resources to help you get the most out of mentoring.
You can find out more about Mentorloop at https://mentorloop.com/
Our program coordinator will be in touch with you from time to time to see how you are going and to help you out with any issues that you might have, but feel free to call or send us an email if you have any questions or issues that you would like some help with.
For more information about our mentoring program, help with the Mentorloop app, or just ask a question about mentoring, send us an email to email@example.com or give our mentoring coordinator a call on 1800 190 498.
