Eligibility

To be eligible for membership of AIDA (the company), an individual or an organisation requires a nomination by a current Indigenous doctor or Indigenous medical student member of AIDA and fall within one of three categories:

Indigenous Medical Graduate – Defined in Article 13(a) of the Constitution as:

(i) A person is eligible to apply for membership as an Indigenous medical graduate member of the company if they:

  1. are an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person;
  2. have graduated with a recognised degree in medicine;
  3. are accepted by the Board as having a commitment to the aims, objectives and values of the company; and
  4. are nominated by an Indigenous medical graduate member or Indigenous medical student member.

(ii) A person becomes an Indigenous medical graduate member upon approval of that person’s application by the Board in accordance with Article 15.

(iii) Applications for Indigenous Medical Graduate Membership of AIDA requires the following documentation.

Indigenous Medical Student – Defined in Article 13(b) of the Constitution as:

(i) A person is eligible to apply for membership as an Indigenous medical student member of the company if they are:

  1. an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person;
  2. enrolled in a recognised degree in medicine;
  3. accepted by the Board as having a commitment to the aims, objectives and values of the company; and
  4. nominated by an Indigenous medical graduate member or Indigenous medical student member.

(ii) A person becomes an Indigenous medical student member upon approval by the Board in accordance with Article 15.

(iii) Applications for Indigenous Medical Student Membership of AIDA requires the following documentation.

Associate – Definition outlined in Article 13(c) of the Constitution as:

Individual associate members

(i) An individual is eligible to apply for membership as an associate member of the company if the individual:

  1. is accepted by the Board as having a commitment to the aims, objectives and values of the company; or
  2. is nominated by an Indigenous medical graduate member or Indigenous medical student member.

(ii) An individual becomes an associate member upon approval by the Board in accordance with Article 15.

Organisational associate members

(iii) An organisation or body corporate is eligible to apply for membership as an associate member of the company if the organisation or body corporate:

  1. is an organisation or a body corporate (and not being a natural person);
  2. is accepted the Board as having a commitment to the aims, objectives and values of the company; or
  3. is nominated by an Indigenous medical graduate member or Indigenous medical student member.

(iv) An organisation or a body corporate becomes an associate member upon approval by the Board in accordance with Article 15.
