Student Director’s message
Dear future and current medical students
The AIDA Student Representative Committee (SRC) is comprised of Indigenous medical student representatives. It is the aim of the SRC to have an Indigenous medical student representative from each medical university in Australia. We currently have 20 universities represented on the SRC who were elected by their Indigenous medical student peers. The SRC members are leaders among AIDA’s Indigenous medical student membership and provide advice and guidance to AIDA on the development of initiatives that support our medical students.
Elected as the Student Director, I sit on the AIDA Board where I provide a student perspective to the other Directors as well as contributing as a Board Director. The SRC reports to the Chief Executive Officer.
Each year the SRC works together on a particular project that ultimately aims to support Indigenous medical students. I look forward to working with the SRC and AIDA through 2018 to develop a framework and audit checklist for medical societies about effective engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander medical students. The project will be supported by a pre and post survey, and the results will be presented at the AIDA Conference 2018.
Anyone can become a doctor, with a lot of hard work and dedication. AIDA is here to support you on your journey and provides helpful resources, networking events, an annual conference, and general support and advice through your studies.
I hope to see you all at the AIDA Conference 2018 in September at Crown, Perth.
