The establishment of a representative organisation for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander practitioners had long been the dream for many of our graduates.
In 1997, Indigenous medical students and doctors attended a conference at Salamander Bay, NSW. This was to prove a defining event for the development of AIDA. AIDA was registered as an incorporated body in 1998.
Since our establishment, AIDA has developed into a strong and influential national body representing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander doctors and medical students. We are in a central position to influence Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, education and health workforce and are committed to working with a wide range of stakeholders to produce positive, practical, sustainable and tangible outcomes for our people.
